Wat Kalayanamitr

Wat Kalayanamit was built in the reign of King Rama III in 1825, it is beautiful temple with a blend of Thai and Chinese architecture. It is the belief about this temple that the locals and Chinese people come to pay their respects to the Luang Poh Toh or Sum Por Kong statue and pray for the safe travels and good relationships.

Another significant of Wat Kalayanamit is Luang Pho Toh or Sam Po Kong; a large Buddha Image stucco; a principal buddha image which is in Subduing Mara position that can be found only 3 temples in Thailand at Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao province and Bangkok at here.

Santa Cruz Church

One of the oldest Catholic Church in Bangkok, Santa Cruz Church was built in 1770 to cater to the religion needs of foreigners living on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The original wooden structure was severely destroyed in a fire accident, but was rebuilt using brick in 1916 during the reign of King Rama IV. The church boasts a Renaissance Neoclassic architecture with the recognizable dome that’s reminiscent of the Duomo in Florence.

Kuan An Keng Shrine

One of the oldest shrines in Thonburi, Kuan An Keng has been praised for its perfectly preserved wooden carving and mural paintings. The shrine was awarded Best Architectural Preserve by the Association of Siamese Architects in 2008.

At the center of the sacred venue is the statue of Guanying, the Chinese goddess of the mercy. The shrine also has an open-air roof that’s reflective of traditional Chinese-style architecture.

Kudichin

The name Kudichin is said to be derived from either Kudichin which means “Chinese monk’s residence” in Thai, Kudichin which translates into “Chinese laborers”. The Portuguese settlement brought about a complex yet harmonious set up where Christians, Buddhists and Muslims have been co-existing together peacefully for more than 200 years. The settlement also introduced a cultural that was distinctive to the place, as well as unique Portuguese-influenced cuisine.

In 1767 a few months after destruction of Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam, King Taksin established the new capital city of Thonburi on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The monarch also allocated piece of land to different communities including one call Kudichin to a small Portuguese community.
