General Information

Back to old days during reign of King Rama I when we built new capital at Bangkok. Our tour will bring you to Talad Noi which is an ethnic Chinese community on the edge of Bangkok’s China town and on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is well known for a strong community feel, old buildings and alleyways bursting with street art and second-hand car parts.

There is a diversity of ethnicity and religion due to the relocation of Portuguese and Chinese communities after the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767. This is evident by several Buddhist temples. A Roman Catholic church and Chinese Shrines scattering in small communities. However, most notable is the very strong vibe of Chinese communities.

Kalawar Church or Holy Rosary Church

Kalawar Church is the impressive Gothic style church built in 1786 four years after Bangkok was established as the capital by Portuguese and follows a traditional cruciform floor plan. The Gothic style arched doors and Roman Catholic stained-glass windows are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the country. Originally based in Santa Cruz Church in Kudi Jeen Thonburi, the Portuguese felt the need for a separate church after the entry of the French clergy. Over the years, Kalawar Church has been renovated and repaired to maintain its beauty.

Chow Sue Kong Shrine

This is one of the earliest shrines in Talad Noi, built in 1804 by the first group of immigrants Hokkien people. It remains at the heart of Talad Noi community. The shrine houses a large statue of doctor Chow Sue Kong. The story has been told that he used herbal medicines on himself before curing others. However, some of the herbs were poisonous and turned his body black.

• Soi Charoen Krung 22

Walk into the alley in Soi or Trok (common Thai name) San Chao Rong Kueak which is a small alleyway filled with locals and residents. The old house is still very much the same, there is a shop and original parts shop. There’re several old buildings and on the walls are decorated with paintings and street art blend with the houses in the neighborhood that makes these community look traditional.

• Siam Commercial Bank

Siam Commercial Bank here was built in 1906, make it the oldest Thai bank and its majestic 100-year-old building is remarkable. The bank inspired by Beaux-Arts and Neoclassical architecture, the building is located by the bank of Chao Phraya River with a private pier and still open as a bank today.
