General Information

Beside of Historical Site of Ayutthaya, this ancient city filled with unique charms and have become unseen tourists attractions that we are going to visit today in our day trip from Bangkok to visit Unseen Temples in Ayutthaya.

Wat Phra Ngam

Wat Phra Ngam is well-known among tourists for its beauty and magical atmosphere around the temple arch, which has been covered by the roots of a large Bodhi tree for more than a hundred years. The highlight of this temple is door of time The temple archway shows the roots of the Bodhi Tree, a sacred tree in Buddhism.

Wat Phra Ngam has no evidence in the historical document but from archaeological studies Wat Phra Ngam must have been built since the early Ayutthaya period

This unseen temple in Ayutthaya, the charm of this temple is looking through the doorway, you will see an old chedi within the door frame when the light falls right in the middle of the door, it looks very magical, it’s the most beautiful as namely ”Gate of Time” especially visiting in the evening from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm

Wat Kudi Dao

The area of Wat Kudi Dao gives the impression of the ancient remains. It is a beautiful temple applied from a style of Ayutthaya plus Lopburi mixed with “Persian” built in late Ayutthaya period. The remain temple perfectly reflects the beauty of the past and is very beautiful.

This temple is very famous as a temple with “Grandfather Ginseng guards the property”

Some websites collected by Google also indicate that in addition to not finding any treasures. His Highness met a tall and big man dressed like an ancient Thai warrior. But there was no head to stand and intercept. and when he returned to the palace, he heard the sound of an earth-digger constantly disturbing his ears. Causing him to invite the teacher to sit and watch the passage and performed a banishing ceremony … made me realize that the ancient warrior is ” Grandpa Ginseng Guards Wealth”

Visit Wat Lokayasutharam

Visit Wat Lokayasutharam

The highlight of this temple is There is a reclining Buddha image, the largest reclining posture on the island of Ayutthaya length of 42 meters. and a height of 8 meters. The Buddha image was made of bricks and cement facing north; its unique feature is that the Buddha head was made of stacked lotuses supporting the head instead of a pillow. His feet are stacked in right angle. It is assumed that it was built in the early of the Ayutthaya period the 6th King of Ayutthaya.

There is also a widespread belief that; coming to worship the reclining Buddha at Wat Lokayasutharam, whose face is full of mercy, shall be considered as a good fortune that helps improving prosperity in life including great mercy to that person as well.

Phu Khao Thong Pagoda

King Burangnong of Burma built a large Mon-Burma style golden mountain pagoda in 1569 as a memorial when he conquered Ayutthaya and located only 2 kilometers from the royal palace of Ayutthaya. But when King Naresuan of Siam restored independence in 1584, he ordered the construction of a Thai style pagoda above the Mon style base with the height 90 meters, the original pagoda appears only at the lower part therefore Phu Khao Thong pagoda has two architectural styles mixed together.

The historical significance of the loss of Ayutthaya to Burma was the excavation of the “Maha Nak Canal” to be used as an important travel route between Ayutthaya city on the Lop Buri River and Wat Phukhao Thong. during the war between Thailand and Burma This place is called “Mahanak Camp” .As the name suggests, canals, ditches and embankments surrounding the Phu Khao Thong fields were built to protect Ayutthaya is still visible until now.

Wat Khok Phayaram

Wat Khok Phayaram or Wat Khok Phraya is assumed that it was built in the early Ayutthaya period or earlier.

There is evidence in the royal chronicle of Ayutthaya that in 1925 King Ramesuan, son of King U-Thong, who was sent to rule Lop Buri brought an army to stage a coup seized power from King Thonglan which only reigned for 7 days, and when the campaign was completed, please allow King Thong Lan to be executed at Khok Phraya Temple and be the first king in history to be punished by the royal tradition of sandalwood.

Subsequently, when the king or the royal family was executed at any time Wat Khok Phraya would be listed as the place where every execution was performed. As evidenced in the Royal Chronicle of Ayutthaya There were 5 kings and royalty executed with sandalwood rods according to the royal tradition at this Khok Phraya Temple

But the evidence from the archives of Wan Walit, a Dutch merchant Clearly confirmed that the execution site was located outside the city island on the north side. Not far from the Royal Palace. Between Na Phra Meru Temple and Wat Hadsadawat Indented to the back, which, after considering, is the location of Wat Khok Phraya itself

At present, the temple area has been renovated and adjusted very well. and a defensive wall base was built around the area Understand that the Fine Arts Department probably did this to prevent villagers living around the area encroaching on the ancient site.

Please note that visitors are required to dress appropriately (no bare shoulder, bare knees or strapless-heel shoes). Shoes must be removed before entering all temple buildings as a matter of respect.
